How It Works

Step 1

Step 1:

The contract comes into BlackBoiler. This can come in via email, via API, or through our own platform. The contract can be a PDF or a Word document.

Step 2

Step 2:

BlackBoiler reads the contract. It chunks the contract into meaningful text segments

Step 3

Step 3:

BlackBoiler utilizes your custom-built model to determine what needs to be edited in the contract, and what needs to be added.

Step 4

Step 4:

BlackBoiler decides what method of AI to use to make the edit.

Step 5

Step 5:

BlackBoiler makes the edits to the uploaded contract directly in “Track Changes”

Step 6

Step 6:

The contract is returned to the user. At this point, the user can confirm and make additional revisions, and then send out the contract.

Step 7

Step 7:

Learning from your edits, BlackBoiler updates your model to better and smarter accurate edits to your contracts moving forward.

Modeling to You

BlackBoiler’s contract AI technology can review contracts, identify inconsistencies, and automatically suggest edits consistent with a company’s playbook — as a result, reducing risk by standardizing how a company reviews and marks up their contracts, no matter who and where it is being negotiated.

And most importantly, BlackBoiler is built to customize to your needs. It does this in three primary ways:

Build your own playbook

Take control of your contract automation with BlackBoiler’s intuitive Playbook Builder. Create and refine your playbook in real-time, adding clauses, rules, and guidelines to match your unique needs. Our user-friendly interface makes it easy to update and evolve your playbook as your business grows, ensuring you’re always equipped to handle every negotiation with confidence.

Learn from your own work

BlackBoiler adapts to the way you work, learning directly from your past contract edits and negotiation patterns. Our AI analyzes your redlines to identify trends and preferences, transforming them into actionable insights. Over time, this creates a smarter, more tailored review process that mirrors your unique approach to contracts—making your expertise the foundation of every automation.

Have us build your playbook

Don’t have time to build a playbook from scratch? Let us handle it. With our Playbook Builder feature, we’ll analyze your past contracts and redlines to create a custom playbook tailored to your organization’s standards. From clause preferences to risk thresholds, we’ll design a framework that aligns with your business priorities—so you can hit the ground running with automated reviews.

The Artificial Elephant in the Room

Most contract editing isn’t generative; it involves specific language inclusion or removal, making Generative AI, like ChatGPT, unsuitable.
Here’s how BlackBoiler approaches automated contract markup without GenAI

Latest & Greatest

Instead of GenAI, BlackBoiler uses an ensemble model to comprehend document content and suggest edits based on the user’s preferences, thus preventing “hallucinations.”

Safe & Secure

BlackBoiler is SOC-2 compliant, and does not engage in data sharing practices, keeping access limited to said client and dedicated exclusively to their models.

Our Own Tech

BlackBoiler owns all the IP in the automated contract markup space. We hold 16 patents in the United States and 1 in Canada, with several more patents on the way.

Scalable & Customizable

BlackBoiler’s editing models are tailored to individual clients, minimizing bias and ensuring confidentiality.
