WE DON’T REPLACE LAWYERS WE AMPLIFY THEM.

As the first company to automate contract redlining with AI, BlackBoiler empowers legal teams to work smarter, faster, and with confidence.

Disrupting the Old Way of Reviewing Contracts

In 2015, attorney Dan Broderick and software engineer Jonathan Herr set out to reimagine contract review, creating the world’s first AI-powered contract redlining software.

The First to Market, Backed by the NSF

In 2018, the National Science Foundation validated our pioneering approach with critical early funding, cementing BlackBoiler as the first-to-market solution for automated AI contract review.

AI + Legal Expertise, Working Together

Today, BlackBoiler partners with global enterprises, law firms, and procurement teams, combining the power of AI with legal expertise to transform contract review at scale.

THE BLACKBOILER STORY

“What if contract review could be automated; not just through templates, but with real intelligence that mirrors how lawyers think?”

- DAN BRODERICK

It Started with a Simple Frustration

In 2015, Dan Broderick, a corporate contract attorney, found himself stuck in a familiar grind, editing the same language in contracts over-and-over again. He knew there had to be a better way. He reached out to a software engineer, Jonathan Herr, with a bold idea: What if contract review could be automated; not just through templates, but with real intelligence that mirrors how lawyers think? Jonathan‘s first response? “There must already be something that does this.” But… there wasn’t.

Building the First of Its Kind

What began as late-night and weekend brainstorming sessions turned into a full-fledged mission to reinvent contract review. Over the next three years, Dan and Jonathan built what would become the world’s first AI-powered contract redlining software solution. In 2018, they received critical early funding from the National Science Foundation, validating their vision and helping bring their contract review software solution to market.

Where We Are Today Kind

What started as a simple frustration has grown into a category-defining company.
Today, BlackBoiler continues to lead as the first-to-market pioneer in automated contract redlining, working with legal teams and organizations across industries to transform the way contracts are reviewed.
